Flourishing for 50 Years!

The Loch Haven Garden Club members celebrated 50 years with a dinner at Macaroni Grill June 26. Margaret Wolfe, one of the founding members, recounted some of the activities of the club through those years. The original members included Suzanne Mellichame, Fern Jacobi, and Florence Painter. They initiated care of the cemetery, care of the triangles, building and planting the first entrance walls, Christmas lights contest, the garden surrounding the sewer pump station, and the 9/11 memorial flag. The club, over the 50 years, donated over $6000 to the brand new gardens at Londontown Publick House, as well as supporting numerous charities. They made swags at Christmas for Crownsville Hospital. While forging friendships, the group learned CPR, and also about growing various plants and how to create floral arrangements. The group took numerous local trips, including a Christmas trip to the White House, and a cruise. The club has been an important part of Loch Haven life.
